The mission of Ascend is to disciple Middle School, High School and College aged students at King of the Nations to be lovers of God. Through studying God’s word and creating a culture of authentic and meaningful relationships, we desire to help each student discover their gifts and their call. We believe this will happen as we learn how to operate not only within the local church but also outside of the church in the neighboring community. With this evangelistic approach, we hope to see many youth reached and encountered by the transforming love of Jesus.
The vision of Ascend is to empower a generation to walk in the fullness of who they were created to be in Jesus Christ.
In 2011, students from various high schools in northern Montgomery County, MD were transformed by the love of God. Their desire was to see the Gospel reach deep into the hearts of the broken and to see a generation illuminated in the light of God’s love. Because of this desire, they collaborated to bring a spark of revival to their respective student bodies. The spring semester of 2011 saw hundreds of students who were encountered and transformed by the healing love of God.
Relationships began to form between leaders and individuals from around the country and the focus began to shift from simply being a community, to actively doing the will of God through ministry. As the summer of 2012 ended, they adopted the name “Generation Revive”. Sticking with the theme of Isaiah 61, Generation Revive had the desire to equip members and non-members alike with the means and know-how to carry a spirit of revival everywhere they went. There was a three-fold focus on Campus Ministry, Global Missions, and General Outreach.
In January of 2014, Generation Revive was introduced to Pastor Greg Zetts, senior pastor and founder of King of the Nations, in Rockville, MD. After a year of partnering with KOTN, God began to restructure the heart of the ministry just a little bit more and Generation Revive officially came under KOTN, taking over their high school ministry. In January of 2015, the ministry officially changed its name to Ascend and launched Ascend Youth in February.
